Kindergarten in Action!

Make your own photo slideshow at Animoto.

Today we had a chance to read Dr. Seuss's "Hop on Pop" and found all of the rhyming words in the book! Afterwards, we practiced speaking rhythms with food words (Cheese, Pizza!) To break up class a little bit, we sang the hokey pokey and had a few laughs as everyone tried to stick their ears, elbows, and even tongues into the circle! Thanks to Ms. Strehlow for taking these pictures of us today!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentines Day from all of us in Mr. Estrella's classes to you.  The last few days, we have been getting into the spirit of Valentines Day, with Guitar playing "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair", 4th and 6th grade learning the parts of the Jazz Standard "Heart and Soul", and 1st and 2nd grade learning the song "Special Valentine" and the motions that go with it.  These pictures show students from Ms. Segovia's 2nd grade students and Mrs. Martinez's 1st grade students singing and moving to "Special Valentine".  That's all for now, I'll be back soon with videos!

New Year, New Students!

We have been back at school now for almost a month, and it feels as though it is flying by.  With school back in session, I see both new and familiar faces.  My new 7th and 8th grade students are getting into a groove in both Guitar and Piano class.  For my K-6 grade students, it's back to business as usual.  Here is a picture of Guitar class getting tuned up and ready to play songs like "Skip to my Lou" and "The Wayfaring Stranger."  That's it for now, next blog will most likely contain a video!

Season's Greetings from Ms. Gonzalez's 4th Grade!

Welcome to my first post, and I think it only appropriate to have some music in the first post.  If you do not know me, my name is Mr. Estrella, but most students call me Mr. Star.  I am the new general music teacher at Herrera School for the Performing Arts.  I moved recently to Arizona and started working at Herrera in September, and have loved every minute of it!  So, without further ado, enjoy my students singing "We Wish You a Swingin' Holiday".  I apologize if you hear my talking or singing, I didn't realize how much it would pick up my voice (Technology these days!)
